Los Angeles Clippers Sign Ben Simmons After Buyout from Nets

The Los Angeles Clippers have officially signed Ben Simmons, adding the 28-year-old guard to their roster after he cleared waivers following a buyout agreement with the Brooklyn Nets. Simmons, who was originally selected first overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, is known for his versatile skills as a playmaker and defender. This move represents a significant addition for the Clippers as they look to bolster their lineup for the remainder of the season.

During the current NBA season, Simmons played in 33 games for the Nets, starting in 24 of them. He averaged 6.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and a team-leading 6.9 assists in about 25 minutes per game. His shooting percentage was 54.7% from the field, and he managed to score in double figures in eight games. Despite facing challenges with a chronic nerve issue in his back that has affected his performance in recent years, Simmons is still regarded as a capable player who can provide defensive depth and ball handling for the Clippers.

Simmons is a three-time NBA All-Star and has earned two All-Defensive Team selections. He received the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2018 and showcased his potential by recording 12 triple-doubles in his rookie season, the second most ever by a newcomer in league history.

As the Clippers prepare for the second half of the season, the addition of Simmons could be pivotal in their quest for a playoff run. His experience and skill set could complement the existing roster, particularly alongside stars such as Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
